Introduction

In 1940 A.D. a divinely charged soul Late Sardar Sumit Singh Ji (alias Santokh Singh Ji)-popularly known as ‘Sant Ji’, made this place for his meditation. This place was a deserted grave yard and jungle all around. Village Israna is 17 kilometers from Panipat. It is at once solitaryand uninhabitedplace who like to go into deep meditation. Sant Sumit Singh Ji (alias Santokh Singh Ji) went to Fatehgarh Sahib, and asked for  Khanda and Kirpan from the Mahant Gurdit Singh(of course these weapons were of small size).

The Mahant of the shrine was fully convinced of the bonafide of his claim and handed over the two weapons to Sant Ji. These two weapons are the most important property bequeathed by Sant Ji to his successor.

After obtaining his weapons, he now made up his mind to go into deep meditation in a solitary place. It may be mentioned here that he was born in a rich family of a sikh Sardar of Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s time. The family had a big estate at village Harpalke near Lahore. Before he wake up spiritually  he had led the family life, and had two sons and one daughter. The family joined him at this place after partition of the country in 1947. In these seven years he discovered that Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji had also visited this place during his odyssey in the planes of northern India. Sant ji constructed a small Mandir at the place where the Great Guru sojourned for a few days. As a memorial to  Guru Nanak, Sant ji installed <> (Ek Onkar)- the logo coined by Guru Nanak Dev Ji to denote his concept Monotheism of the Almighty. It differs from ‘Om of Aryans’. It is a figurative delineation of God and declares unequivocally that God can not be divided into Trinity – a confederation of three gods. This ‘Ek Onkar’ is unique in the world. Sant ji used to preach to the sangat here that ‘Ek Onkar’ shall be the Mool Mantra of the Khalsa Panth in the time to come. Modern research scholars have recently come across extensive use of this mono syllable throughout the Bani of the holy Sri Guru Granth Sahib. Sant ji discovered the importance of ‘Ek Onkar’ through long and deep meditation which the scholars could only do by reading Gurbani. In this ‘Unique Mandir’ devoted sangat comes twice a weak to join ‘Akhand-Jap’ –continuous recitation of  ‘Ek Onkar’ on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Sant ji got a well dug up near the main gate and invested it with a healing power, which may appear to be a miracle to the modern man. But Sant Ji never claimed any credit for it. This was not to make people his followers. He never allowed anybody to touch his feet as is the practice among modern sikh saints as well as Hindu saints and gurus. He told the sangat that this healing miracle in the water is the blessing of  Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Therefore, they were advised to go and make a prayer to the shabad Guru – the holy Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. He stressed very forcefully that man should not bow and touch the feet of another man however spiritually high he may claim to be. The holy Sri Guru Granth Sahib is the embodiment of God through the revealed Bani. One should always bow reverently and pray before the Bani – Guru or the Shabad Guru. Judged by all norms Sant Ji was a true model of the true Khalsa of Guru Gobind Singh Ji. He has set these traditions in this place which were prevalent after the creation of Khalsa Panth. He established at Israna Sahib “Gurdwara Sant Bhawan” for “Khalsa Parchar" and preached amongst the religious congregations  (sangat)  that :-
